  1. The magnetic pole region of a magnet in which 
  2. its magnetic properties are strongest. Every 
  3. magnet has two poles, called north and south. 
  4. The north (or north-seeking) pole is so named 
  5. because a freely suspended magnet will turn 
  6. so that this pole points towards the Earth's 
  7. magnetic north pole.
